John K. Claflin, 76, of Springfield and Eldred, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at his home. He was born in Carrollton on March 30 1948, a birthday he shared with his mother and sister. He was the son of Jake and Athalone Wayham Claflin. He married Jennie Taylor on December 26, 1973 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Zachary Claflin of Ashikaga, Japan and Marcus Ciani of Springfield, his beloved granddaughter, Ciara Ciani of St. Louis, MO; two brothers, Joseph (Ginger) Claflin of Clifton Terrace and James of Maryland Heights, MO; one sister, Janine (Michael) Hankins of Jacksonville, several nieces and nephews, two great-nephews and a grand niece.
John attended St. John's Grade School in Carrollton through 7th grade when he transferred to Eldred Grade School. He graduated from Carrollton High School in June 1966. He attended Illinois College in Jacksonville and completed his bachelor's degree at Sangamon State University, later desi
